Abstract: | The Xilinx ML510 development board contains a virtex-5 FPGA with two PowerPC processor cores, DSP-like blocks and 130,000 logical elements. The combined computation power of a CPU and DSP-logic and normal logic offers new possibilities for embedded control like e.g. image processing within a control loop. This assignment focuses on exploiting the computation power of the Virtex-5 for embedded control applications. Besides testing the board from a computer engineering point of view also a demo application is written which illustrates the strong points of the ML510 e.g. real-time networking or execution of CPU-intensive calculations. |
