Abstract: | Safepak is a production company for flexible packaging materials such as plastic bags and shrinkwrap films. During my internship, I designed a new machine to seal two ends of film together and trim the waste ends. This is a so-called splicing machine. The complete mechanical design and making of manufacturing and assembly drawings was part of the assignment. The other half of the internship was spent (re-)designing other parts and machines in the factory. For example, a film tension mechanism and folding station were designed and some electrical components were made. The assignment included communicating with (workshop-)staff about the machines and analyzing the current machines and processes. |
