Abstract: | This research explores the added value of timing, routing, and planning surveillance flights for the Dutch Air Support and Aviation Police. We define an exact method and a heuristic to determine when to start surveillance flights and schedule police helicopter crews to be on stand-by. We then use simulation to determine the expected performance for different planning policies. We find that we can increase the proximity of police helicopters to criminal incidents and increase the probability that surveillance flights are succesful. |
