Abstract:Civil society has always been a strong pillar in German development policy and cooperation. With the administrative simplification of its implementing agencies, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development wants to strengthen its cooperation with the civil society. Also, it wants to motivate interested people to volunteerism in development cooperation. A new implementing agency was founded: Engagement Global gGmbH – Service für Entwicklungsinitiativen. This agency is the roof for many programmes that support and fund educational projects concerning global development within Germany. The case study gives evidence on how this administrative simplification worked out and about its success. Through the Mitmachzentrale, a one-stop shop for interested citizen was offered where information can be received without much effort. Process reengineering and new ICT-tools cut red tape and eliminated administrative burdens. Engagement Global has not achieved all targets yet and, thus, the administrative reform has not been completed yet; but it has been successful in reducing administrative burdens on the citizen for attaining information on global civic engagement. Still, it can be stated that Engagement Global keeps on the straight way to fulfil its task and double the number of volunteers in global development form one to two million people.
