Abstract: | The Swiss-based Allseas Group is one of the most famous offshore companies in the world. The pipelay method used by Allseas is S-lay method. Stinger is one of the most important components for this method. Roller boxes locate on the top of stingers and support pipelines. The existing roller boxes use rollers to contact pipelines directly and there is polyurethane coating on the surface of rollers. Coatings suffer large loads from pipes and sea environment so that they are easy to get damaged. The project of internship aims to design a new concept to decrease failure of coating. This project has been carried out in the Innovations department of the company Allseas Engineering B.V. and it takes 3 and half months. Based on requirements of functionality, maintenance, weight, load capacity of roller boxes, seven concepts have been proposed finally. The selected concept meets all the requirements and itis able to avoid high load peak and decrease the stress level on the coatings. Model of each concept is made with Solidworksand contact nonlinear analyses are done with ANSYS. A complete report of this project is finished and handed in the company. The report includes project introduction, problem definition, requirements analysis, concepts design, conclusions and recommendations. As this project is on a concept design level, further studies are recommended at the end of the report. |
