Abstract: | This thesis consist of a whitefish processor that has problems planning the capacity due to the uncertain supply of raw fish. The capacity consists of the number of working hours in the processing plant. In this research we construct a method that forecasts the fish catch of the fishing vessels that deliver the raw material to the processor. We analyze the impact when the processor uses this forecasting method in the capacity planning. We create a mathematical model of the processing plant, which consists of a stochastic programming problem, which optimizes the planned capacity in the processing plant in the coming three days, given the forecasts generated by the forecasting method. Using this method, we showed that the processor can save between 13% and 23% when using the forecasting method in comparison with the situation where it uses the average catch as forecasting method. These savings consists of higher profits due to faster processing of the raw material and less overcapacity in the processing plant. |
