| Abstract: | Thales Nederland is one of the leading producers of naval radar systems worldwide. Its long history gives it a lot of experience, but also a large set of standardized materials. While no longer physically stocked, the large set of materials results in a lot of documentation that has to be maintained, as well as more secondary process which may differ per material. To limit the amount of materials first an overview of all standardized materials is made with inclusion of usage and relevant properties. Subsequently materials are identified as elimination candidates based on (lack of) current usage and/or on overlapping properties. Overall this has resulted in 20% of the materials being identified as elimination candidates. While making the overview a documentation update has been conducted. This included updating references to external standards, making an updated description of honeycomb sandwich core materials and multiple minor corrections. Finally an analysis of different material designations for drawings has been conducted. The internship period has proved to be an opportunity to learn a lot about the application of materials. The experience was very positive, with an excellent atmosphere and friendly colleagues. |
