Abstract:The main research question is: how can machine- and operator capacity planning deal with seasonal and variable demand to improve on-time delivery in a cost-efficient way? We design a model for strategic capacity planning where we anticipate tactical decisions (i.e. workforce planning). The main theoretical contribution is the use of prediction intervals to model demand variability and uncertainty. Furthermore, we created a calculation model for capacity demand to address the complex relation between product demand and processing times.
