Abstract: | The global climate is changing rapidly and the effects of this are increasingly visible in the Netherlands. Rainfall gets heavier and summers get drier. The latter also affects the Rivierenland water board after several dry consecutive summers. With the management area between the major rivers of the Netherlands, a sufficient supply of water is possible almost everywhere, except in three areas around Nijmegen. These areas are completely dependent on rain and seepage water. This study examines the possibilities of using LOP (bulkhead) weirs in the areas of Citters, Groesbeek and Ooijpolder to retain water and create a higher groundwater level at the start of the growing season. |
