| Abstract: | Failure Mode and Effects Analysis is a widely used tool to reduce risk in a system and making it more reliable. One flaw however is that it is very resource intensive and the amount of information being displayed can be enormous, especially in more complex systems. This makes understandability and usability one of the issues with the current FMEA. This study proposes a new visualization method that uses an interactive Nodelink tree diagram to increase the users’ understanding of the system. It is designed to have less information displayed, provide focus and show relatedness among different failure modes. The proposed visualization was tested for a chair system and a slight increase in effectiveness was perceived, yet there was no significant improvement measured. Based on the feedback from the participants, the prototype seems promising and further development is required. |
