Abstract: | This thesis introduces the development of "ALERT," a technology aimed at monitoring students' concentration and stimulating their alertness during face-to-face lectures. The main objective was to address the challenge of identifying and improving concentration levels in a non-distracting and non-demotivating manner. The ALERT system utilizes a webcam and two screens to collect and analyze data on eye blinking, yawning, and head direction, predicting concentration levels on a scale of 1 to 7. Real-time feedback is provided through color-coded displays, stimulating alertness and promoting self-motivation. Evaluation of the prototype demonstrated its effectiveness in helping students monitor and regain concentration during lectures. The potential impact of the ALERT system extends beyond university students, offering possibilities for integration into the broader educational field and future research in Smart Lecture Rooms. |
