Abstract: | This bachelor thesis investigates if an application can be designed for an interactive diner table to encourage children at the age of 4 to eat more vegetables. Eating not enough vegetables can lead to health issues such as heart diseases because vegetables are an important provider of dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. A concerning issue arises as many children develop an aversion to vegetables during their early years. Research shows that taste development occurs early in life, so it is important to address this issue at an early age, as establishing healthy eating habits at an early age has a significant impact on children's future dietary choices and overall wellbeing. By letting young children, at the age of 4, dine at a Sensory Interactive Table (SIT) this problem may be solved. On this table, animations will be showed with the use of LEDs that are placed underneath the surface in order to motivate children to eat more vegetables by providing positive feedback and giving them a clear goal. A total of 6 children participated in user tests for this experiment. Interviews were conducted both before and after the user tests and observations were made. These both were analyzed to achieve a comprehensive outcome in order to address the research question. The results demonstrated a positive influence on vegetable intake, with the majority of participants showing increased motivation to eat vegetables and engagement with the interactive features. |
